AFHC Welcomes Bob Schroeter as New Executive Director
The Adult Family Home Council (AFHC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert (Bob) Schroeter as our new Executive Director.
Bob is a seasoned attorney with over 30 years of experience providing legal and government relations services to clients across Washington and Oregon State. Throughout his career, Bob has represented clients in courts throughout Washington, including appearances and arguments before the Washington State Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and Federal District Court. In addition to his legal work, he has actively engaged in legislative advocacy at the federal level, as well as with state and county legislators in both Oregon and Washington. His career has included roles such as Assistant Attorney General, DDA Compliance Director and APS Legal Benefits Advisor, Comcast Government Relations Director, Municipal Attorney, and Director of Operational Support for a state agency.
He has extensive working knowledge of the operation of Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). We trust he is highly capable of advocating for and representing adult family home providers as the Executive Director of the Adult Family Home Council (AFHC). He began his public service journey as a Congressional Intern in Washington, D.C., and pursued his education in New York and Hungary before earning his law degree in Spokane. Over the years, Bob has also served as a Superior Court Arbitrator and Land Use Hearing Examiner, and has argued cases in State and Federal Courts, the Court of Appeals, and the Washington State Supreme Court.
Beyond his professional work, Bob has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. He has served as Board President or Board Member for numerous nonprofit organizations in Oregon and Washington—advocating for at-risk families, housing and food security, the cultural arts, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A devoted Gonzaga basketball fan and a Mariners supporter, Bob is also a proud father of two adult children—one a teacher in Grays Harbor and the other a digital media professional in Vancouver. Bob is a grandfather to a talented 6-year-old. He also shares his home with two fiercely independent shiba dogs and serves as their part-time caregiver J.
As we enter this new chapter, the Board of Directors first want to extend their sincere thanks to you the members for your patience, trust, understanding and support during this transition. The Board of Directors would also like the thank the dedicated Search Committee—Dorothy, Rey, Michelle, Kim, and Hope—who worked diligently over many months with Glick-Davis consulting to ensure a fair, thorough, and strategic selection process.
